Something in the spirit of St George

Phil Packer is a serving British Army Officer.
On 26 April 2009 he will line up with 36000 others to start the London Marathon.
Phil hopes to finish the marathon on the 9th of May.
He intends to complete just under 2 miles per day - on the advice of his medical team.
Phil lost the use of his legs following an incident after a rocket attack in Basra on 19 Feb 08, and is a paraplegic with catastrophic injuries.
Phil has dedicated himself to raising £1 million pounds for Help for Heroes, and furthering the opportunities for sport and adventurous training for injured service personnel and the wider disabled community.
He has already rowed the channel with the adventurer Alastair Humphreys, and will attempt to climb a route called Zodiac on El Capitan with the alpinist Andy Kirkpatrick later in the year.
Phil will be in the spotlight of an immense amount of media interest for the duration of his marathon effort.

19 June 2011 - Part 2 - The Detail ...

I have received the rules and pre-enrollment form.
You can get them via email from lany11@orange.fr or i am happy to fwd them.
The race is dated 19 June to 25 Aug 2011, does not include any rest days, and covers 3000 miles.
There are in effect supported and unsupported entries, with an emphasis being on opening your support team resources to other runners if possible.
I anticipate needing a driver cum cook cum physio, a pick-up, and lots of "hello, we've never met, but can i kip in your spare room, could you feed me, and where's the shower"
Runners must maintain a minimum of 3.5mph
The entry fee is $6500.
There are both discounts and penalties to the entry fee depending on how early or late you enter.
Places are "limited".
Pre-enrollment is open now. Enrollments open 15 Oct 2010.
Enrollments will be via the website of the runner (extraordinaire !!!) Serge Girard

The run appears to fit in to the things-to-do-before-you-die box. Pre-enrollment is free.

There's tough, and then there's Trionium....the hardest stuff known to man!

at last .. the man from Trionium has returned and updated his site
Trionium is the baby of Robert McCaffrey and is a stable that organises and supports some of the daftest, best organised and most enjoyable events in the UK
oh ... and within the stable are some events that will wither the very hardest of men and women

where else can you run the Knacker Cracker, the Wife Carrying Race and the Picnic Marathon ("Britains Hardest race") ????

Trionium magazine was / is one of the very best free multi sport magazines around, the first 4 editions are still worth a read for inspiration, edition 5 is a work in progress
